Well, I finally did it. I got up the nerve to develop my own B&W film. Since I’m not doing darkroom printing, I didn’t actually need a darkroom. All I needed was a dark place to load the film on the reel and into the developing tank. My bedroom has a walk in closet that turned out to be the perfect place, albeit a little bit on the dusty side. Once I had the film in the tank I was ready to go. My sister had given me some Diafine to try and after reading the instructions it seemed like I couldn’t go wrong, it was so easy. Well not really, it turns out there is a little more to this than just dumping some chemicals into a tank, nock, swish, dump out, and repeat. My negs came out so “thin” I could barely tell I had taken a photo, and there was a long purple streak along one edge of the entire roll. Luckily my scanner can see better than I can. Once scanned and with a little cropping, I actually came out with some OK images. I hope to get better result next time.

Happy Shooting,
